July 30-September 26, 2021

The Midwest Museum of American Art is pleased to present the exhibition “Historic Indiana en Plein Air” which celebrates 50 years of preservation in the State of Indiana.

The Indiana Plein Air Painters Association (IPAPA) has partnered with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to celebrate the listing of the 2,000th Indiana site to the National Register of Historic Places. A beautiful exhibit comprised of scenes by 42 artists was selected by Rachel Berenson Perry, Curator Emerita of the Indiana State Museum Fine Arts program and a fully illustrated catalog accompanies the show. As the catalog states, “The DNR could have used photographs to publish an account of this historic event, but instead invited the artists of IPAPA to create paintings of these historical sites to commemorate the occasion. As a result, artists had the opportunity to explore and paint places they may have never known existed, while at the same time learning about their historic significance”.

This exhibition will open on Friday, July 30, 2021, and will continue through Sunday, September 26, 2021.
