The Midwest Museum of American Art is pleased to announce a new Spotlight Exhibit, “Voices of Nature & the Equine Spirit” featuring the ceramic works of Jana Hanka. The exhibition will be on view through Sunday, March 15, 2020.

Jana Hanka earned her MFA from the Prague Academy of Fine Arts in 1980 and has lived in the USA since 1987. In November of 2019, she became an American citizen. She began life as a painter and has evolved into a sculptor, employing clay and bronze. She is particularly fond of the rough and unpredictable earthy effects created by ash deposits and micro-climates within the large fire-breathing dragon of a kiln used for week-long, Anagama or Japanese-style wood firings. It is a force unto itself, beautiful and primal, and the work comes from the kiln as a reflection of that ancient process.

The exhibition will be on view at the Midwest Museum of American Art through Sunday, March 15, 2020. The museum is open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Tuesday through Friday; Saturday and Sunday, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. Admission is $10 for Adults, $8 for Senior/Students, Family $25.
